This, 19th century hay loft, is the building that we managed to find.
On our first visit, in January 2007, the ground floor was cluttered with rubble, scaffolding and other heavy items.
The upper, with slightly lighter and more sentimental objects.
On finishing our degrees and the necessary celebrations, we began work on the building in late July.
Quickly things became clean.
And they did feast.
Soon there was fire…..
and a door to keep the animals out.
At night there are stars.
Carpets came in August…
and were followed by all the wood used to construct our degree shows.
With this, we began to build bedrooms.
In September our toilet was built.
Ducky-poo became a success, not only as a composting toilet, but as an interesting visitor attraction.
By November, the Good Hatchery was beginning to resemble a dwelling of sorts.
We also discovered a cobble floor in November.
Fire moved inside.
His name is Sergent Adhmad.

And we are in…..

Hi guys
my god the work you put into that old building is unbelievable. Well done you have created a great space! It looks really like an inspirational space. I would love to learn more about your residencies, as I would be very interested in working in that part of the country. It sounds like a very interesting area with its bogs and green fields. My practise is paint and photography and I would love to be let loose there for 3 weeks, and see what I end up with. Thanks take care Anne x
Well done, looks amazing, you should all be rightfully proud! I wish I had such great inititive when I left art college! Best of luck to you…..
